Innovative Challenge -> Hosted by Oregon Clinical and Translational Research Institute (OCTRI), this idea pitch competition is open to all OHSU students. No prior experience or developed idea necessary. Thursday, May 2nd, 2019 at RLSB. -> Two chances to win $2000 for prototyping your idea! You will also compete in PSU’s regional Invent OR competition https://www.inventoregon.org/ (June 2019). -> Drop-in Info Session on November 16 from 12-2pm in BICC 123: talk to organizers, learn competition details and requirements, and meet other students interested in innovation and commercialization! -> Contact Melissa Mudd ([email protected]) Impact Challenge Workshops -> November 7- " Rules of Research: 10 Things You Should be Doing with Your Data " -> November 29- " Electronic Lab Notebooks & Other Tools for Productivity" -> All workshops are from 2:00 to 3:30 PM and are free for students. WomenStrength at SON 3076, 12-1:30 pm on Thurs, Nov 15. -> Description: The WomenStrength is a personal safety workshop designed to introduce adults to a variety of self-protective options in a short, non-physical, discussion format. This meeting is open to all genders. The next GSO PUB NIGHT is on November 26th from 6-8 pm at Suki’s Bar and Grill! AVDS Happy Hour on Fri, November 23 from 5pm – 6pm in the RJH atrium Mindfulness and Group Acupuncture every Wed from 12:10-12:50 pm on the First Floor School of Nursing. Growing quickly. -> Talent Show is 11/30. -> All-Hill Ski Trip is Jan 18th-20th; as we get closer, we’ll announce which rep will be collecting checks and forms. -> Flame awards will be on March 5th, and Spring Gala on April 12th. -> Funding requests – nearly $9000 for whole year. $1000 was granted to the Health Care Equity Series; $500 granted to WIS for the Mixer (20 free tickets for all students); $2180 to GSO for purchasing alcohol for the Fall BBQ. Guess there’s $5500 left for the year?? -> Reminder to vote by 8pm today. Look up Multnomah County official ballot drop sites to find one near you. -> Next All-Hill meeting is Fri, Nov. 9, 12pm – 1:30pm, CLSB 2S024 Graduate Council -> Assistant Dean for Diversity update – 11 applicants, top candidates should be announced soon -> Approved a new Masters program called Food Systems and Society, brought over from Marylhurst University, which closed unexpectedly earlier this year. Hoping to get it ready to accept students for next Fall. Funding Requests ->None. Committee updates Travel Award- Breanna -> Deadline for Fall applications is Dec 7 by 5 pm. -> Winners of the Summer awards are as follows: Brittany Alperin (SMAA), Carlina Heimann (GSO), and Graham Rykiel (GSO) Union- Marc ->Rally for Research is 11/15 at 11 am! GPS- Eileen -> GPS has just approved the Steering and Curriculum Committees for the new Program in Biomedical Sciences (new PMCB). Student involvement is still welcome and very much encouraged. Contact me if you’d like to serve on the Steering, Curriculum, or Admissions committees. -> Drafting a mentorship compact between faculty and graduate students. If you have thoughts/opinions on what makes a good or bad mentorship relationship, please contact me via email! ->Eileen is leaving position in GPS at the start of 2019 to focus on graduating. SHAC- Brittany -> There’s a new psychologist, Dr. Hanna Hoeflich and there is no longer a waitlist for behavioral health visits! -> They are searching to hire a suicide prevention coordinator -> They are looking to hire a part time MD to add to the JBT staff -> Get your one free massage! - Susannah Skye -> If you have pacific source, you don’t need a referral for acupuncture -> Get your flu shot! -> The SMAA Cultural Events program is currently on hold due to some back and forth within the administration. But it will return hopefully as soon as next year as SMAA is committed to its continuation and because it still has a placeholder in the budget.
