It is the intention of the Graduate Student Organization (GSO) to recognize outstanding work by OHSU graduate students, and to contribute to their professional development by helping fund travel to distant sites for scholarly purposes. A number of graduate students per term will receive reimbursement for out-of pocket costs up to $400 for research-related travel. Additionally, the OHSU School of Medicine Alumni Association (SMAA) has kindly offered to begin granting one $500 travel award for three academic quarters per year, starting in Spring 2017. This SMAA award will be granted to the applicant with the greatest demonstrated financial need in a given application period. Students must retain receipts for their travel, and reimbursement will occur once the student returns from the trip. The award funds can be applied to conference fees, lodging, food, and other necessary expenses, including travel fares. Due to limited funds, preference will be given to senior students.Eligibility:

AWARD NEWS & ANNOUNCEMENTS:
Starting for Summer Term 2017, we are changing when students should apply for GSO Travel Awards. Instead of the previous process of applying for an award within the same term that you are traveling to a conference, we have decided to instead accept applications in the term prior to your conference date (e.g. students traveling in Summer 2017 should now apply for an award in Spring term). Awards will still be distributed as reimbursements after your conference has taken place, but we hope that applying and receiving notification of your award prior to travel will help those of you who need to know what your funding status is before committing to attend a meeting of interest.
For those of you traveling during Spring 2017: please still submit your application for the spring deadline (June 16) this cycle and you will be considered for a Spring award. We apologize for any confusion as we make this transition this term. Please email us with any questions about this change!
